Introduction

Welcome to the Beverley Taylor Sorenson College of Education and Human Development

Our primary mission is to advance education, human performance, and family development through knowledge, compassion, and action.

The Teacher Education faculty at Southern Utah University decry inequity and injustice in our educational system and greater society. We commit to developing and nurturing educators who value all people in the communities they serve. Such professional educators will act as agents of change, advocate for equity and justice in their schools and communities, and will embolden students to do the same.

Southern Utah University’s Department of Teacher Education offers students the opportunity to major in elementary education or secondary education. The goals of the education department are to develop educators who are academically competent, experienced, prepared, understand the need for both art and science in education and have effective classroom management. Partnerships with Iron County School District, Art Works for Kids, the Utah Arts Council, U.S. Forest and Park Service, SUU Outdoor initiative, Southwest Education Development Center K-16 Regional Alliance, and many others provide our students with opportunities to be involved in internships, work opportunities, hands-on learning experience, and professional development growth.
