Introduction

The Polytechnic of Portalegre is a public institution of Higher Education that integrates the Higher School of Education and Social Sciences (ESECS-IPPortalegre), the Higher School of Technology and Management (ESTG-IPPortalegre), the Higher School of Health (ESS-IPPortalegre) , in Portalegre, and the Escola Superior Agrária (ESAE-IPPortalegre), in Elvas.

The activities of the four Higher Schools are coordinated by the Central Services, with the Social Action Services (SAS) oriented to support the student, namely in matters related to food, accommodation, psychological support and sports and recreational activities.

The Polytechnic of Portalegre also has a technology-based incubator (BioBIP), a Research and Innovation Office (GII), an Entrepreneurship and Employment Office (GEE), a Center for Languages and Cultures (CLIC) and a Relations Office. International (GRI).

In order to be closer and closer to the community and contribute to its sustainable development, it offers several services either through its laboratories, or through partnerships and support to applied research.

Above all, it seeks quality education, open to the international dimension, valuing the region and people more and more.

Mission

The Polytechnic of Portalegre is a Public Institution of Higher Education that creates, transmits and disseminates knowledge, professionally oriented, through training and qualification, at a high level, to different audiences, at different times in the academic and professional pathways, and research and technological development for the promotion of communities, in cooperation with regional, national and international entities.

A Close and Committed Polytechnic

A Polytechnic anchor of regional development, where knowledge results fundamentally from the articulation between specialized training and applied research, as well as from the interaction between its academic community - close and committed - and the different partners of companies and organizations. A Polytechnic capable of critically self-renewing with the active contribution of its graduates and its partners in the economic, social, political, cultural and educational fabric.

Strategy

In order to contribute to achieving this VISION, as well as the mission, principles and values enshrined in Article 1 of the Statutes of the Polytechnic of Portalegre, 4 strategic objectives were defined:

  1. Have quality education and differentiating training;
  2. To be a research and technological development community that promotes knowledge and innovative regional responses;
  3. Be an open organization with an international environment;
  4. Have an inclusive and sustainable polytechnic ;

The Strategic Development Plan is based on these four objectives, each with three strategic axes and several lines of action, and some indicators and goals to be achieved during the quadrennium. This document will be revisited and deepened with annual activity plans under the responsibility of the different organic units and articulated with the Educational, Scientific, Cultural and Sports Project (PECCD) to be reviewed in light of the new reality of the Polytechnic.

Our history

The Polytechnic of Portalegre is a public institution of Higher Education. It integrates four Schools: the School of Education (ESECS), the School of Technology and Management (ESTG) and the School of Health (ESS), in Portalegre, and the School of Agriculture of Elvas (ESAE).

In its four Schools, the Polytechnic offers several undergraduate and master's courses, as well as higher professional technical courses (CTeSP) and postgraduate courses.

The Polytechnic's training offer covers diverse areas of knowledge, according to the training matrix of each of its schools. Education / training, social work, tourism, journalism / communication, management, engineering, information technology, design, marketing, agriculture, equine culture, nursing and health technologies are the fundamental areas of to know that they support the training, research and intervention of the Polytechnic and its schools.

One of the main concerns of the Portalegre Polytechnic is regional development, having a strong relationship with the surrounding community. On the other hand, it is concerned with monitoring the professional insertion of its students, creating conditions for their establishment in the region. Despite this strong regional commitment, the Polytechnic does not neglect the exchange and national and international external relations.

In this sense, projects such as the Interdisciplinary Coordination for Research and Innovation (C3i), the Center for Languages and Cultures (CLIC), the Entrepreneurship Office, External Relations and Cooperation and the Europe Direct Office, are strong and consolidated units bets of intervention by the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre.

Social concern has been the motto and commitment of the Polytechnic since its foundation. The creation and deepening of social action services (SAS), the development of quality and excellent education, support for the school community, support for graduates to enter active life and interaction with the environment are dominant concerns. But also social inclusion, the creation of conditions for sports practice, concern for the health and safety of students, teachers and employees are social practices of the Polytechnic that are being institutionally affirmed.

In line with its concerns and principles, the Polytechnic is creating ever more sustainable conditions of support for the community, favoring the practice of volunteering by students and employees, as well as creating conditions to face internal situations of social emergency, namely by developing the Psychopedagogical Support Office, which has a wide range of work and intervention programs.
