Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design

Introduction

MOME is a university for artists, designers, creators and innovators who are committed to break the mold of mediocrity. We focus on taking a whole person approach via mentoring and creating a value-driven arts and design ecosystem in the CEE (Central and Eastern Europe) region.

MOME has been welcoming international students for over 30 years as part of the European Union's Erasmus Program, and we are proud of our collaboration with nearly a hundred art and design universities worldwide. In 2024 September MOME launches six full-time English-language master’s degree programs.

The growth of our international student body remains a key focus of our future goals since the presence of international students plays a key role in shaping our diverse community and culture.

MOME provides tuition fee support to foreign students who are accepted to international programs, come from a specific geographical region, and qualify for support based on their professional accomplishments.

MOME’s 29,000 m2 state-of-the-art campus opened its gates in 2019. The renewed academic buildings support cooperative, interdisciplinary opportunities for multi-degree training. Greater emphasis is assigned to forms of training that respond to the challenges of the 21st century, offering knowledge-enhancing skills that can be used in the creative industry, alongside undergraduate courses.

Our TechPark on campus provides the state-of-the-art workshop and studio capacity needed for education. At the same time, a facility is also a place for experimentation, prototyping, and the development of media content, as well as professional implementation.

We would love to welcome you into our community!

Visa Requirements

If you apply to our programs from a country outside the EEA/EU, you may need to apply for a Residence Permit Visa (D-visa) to enter Hungary. To apply for a D -visa you must contact the closest Hungarian Consulate to your home.

Please note that the visa application process is lengthy, it can take up to two months, therefore arranging your appointment with the consulate as early as possible is strongly recommended. Mid-July appointments need to be booked in May or early June.

Upon successful admission to the selected program, we will provide you with a letter of acceptance which you can use for your visa application. You will also receive a certificate of enrolment once you have completed the registration process at the beginning of the semester.

Please find more information on the student visa (D-visa) application process on the Consular Services' site.

Students from 3rd countries coming from a visa waiver country must also apply for a Residence permit for study purposes upon arrival in Hungary. Our Student Affairs office will assist you in the residence permit application process.

The application for a residence permit can also be submitted online, via the electronic administration platform of the Immigration Office, EnterHungary. To find out more about how you can arrange your application online please download the manual.

Arranging your health insurance

Students should arrange for appropriate health insurance in their home country. Those with chronic illnesses should check whether they are also covered by health insurance. Students taking any medication regularly should make sure that they will have access to it during their stay in Hungary. It is not possible to receive medication via post from your home country as it can get held up at customs due to the difference between the regulations of the EU and non-EU countries.

Making these arrangements in your home country will almost certainly be less expensive than making them here in Hungary.

Please make sure to check before signing up with an insurance company the number of health centers they are contracted with in Hungary/ Budapest and the range of services included.

Currently, in Hungary, the following Hungarian insurance company offers individual student health insurance plans for international students: Generali

You can contact their English-speaking customer service for getting a price quote at +36 30 211 2770 or contact them by filling in their online information request form.

You can find below a list of private health centers which may be useful when searching for an insurance provider: These health centers all have English-speaking doctors and assistants and provide a wide range of health specialist services. Please note that there are several private clinics/health care centers in Budapest, but you need to ensure that your insurance is contracted with the place you are visiting. Some examples:

  • FirstMed
  • Rozsakert Medical Center
  • Medicover
  • Buda Health Centre

Research Hubs

The Innovation Center conducts research across five main fields, each represented by a separate hub.

Material Research Hub

Interdisciplinary research group focusing on tangible technology, dynamic surfaces, biomaterials, electronic textiles, and soft robotics. They develop prototypes, research fabrication methodologies, and create new materials.

Data Storytelling Hub

Data collection is a daily practice in the 21st century but the stories behind the data are rarely unveiled. Data storytelling helps with interactive tools and narrative methods to show patterns that can help us make decisions.

Sustainable Industry Hub

Utilizing traditional ecological knowledge, state-of-the-art technologies, and human ingenuity and intuition, we explore ways in which industry could do more with less, and serve not only the economy but also ecologies.

Interaction & Immersion Hub

In the Interaction and Immersion Hub, we are looking at the design gaps of the Metaverse-like environments and we strive to create such prototypes that can have a beneficial effect on our mental health and also our daily life.

Social Design Hub

Developing and supporting practice-based design research in order to seek opportunities for a more sustainable lifestyle and economy.

Incubation

Our goal is to develop entrepreneurial skills, improve self-confidence, and help transform innovative ideas into more developed business concepts. We have integrated our strengths in nurturing young talent into a design-driven incubation program.
