Research, Development and Innovation The Faculty of Pharmacy has been a research-oriented unit of higher education ever since its foundation. A virtual tour of our University The University of Veterinary Medicine is the only veterinary school in Hungary. It is a state institution supervised and financed by the Hungarian Ministry of Human Capacities and is accredited to issue the diplomas of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) and the postgraduate degree of Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.) in veterinary sciences. The University has an uninterrupted teaching record for more than two centuries, making it thus one of… [+] the oldest veterinary schools in the world. A Brief History of Veterinary Education in Hungary In 1787, shortly after the foundation of the world's first veterinary school (1762, Lyons) a "Chair for Animal Healing" was established at the Faculty of Medicine in the town of Pest (now an area of the city of Budapest) to provide students of medicine and surgery with basic knowledge of animal diseases and their management, an integral part of a general practitioner's activity at that time. As an independent University, the school has earned an international reputation in the first half of the 20th century. As a part of the countrywide reorganization of higher education in 2000, the University became the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the newly founded Szent István University. From summer 2016 our school regained it’s independence thus the former name the University of Veterinary Medicine applies. International Accreditation In 1995 the veterinary school was internationally accredited by the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (E.A.E.V.E.). The follow-up visitation took place in 2004 with a positive outcome. The accreditation of the Budapest veterinary school was reinforced by the E.A.E.V.E. and the F.V.E. (Federation of Veterinarians of Europe). The Accreditation Report concludes: "The University of Veterinary Science can claim a proud position among its European counterparts. Its young graduates need not be afraid to compete with their European colleagues for their knowledge and practical skills." Since 2004 Hungary is a full member of the European Union which means acceptance of degrees within the EU and their equivalence with degrees from other EU-countries. The Budapest-diploma is accepted in addition to EU-countries in several others as well. After the completion of a board exam in Canada or the US, the graduates are entitled to a residency and to practice in North America. Facts and Figures The University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest is, as appropriate for a country with a population of 10.5 million, the only veterinary school in Hungary. Current enrolment is about 100, 120 and 120 students for the Hungarian, German and English programs, respectively. This means that we have a total of 1400 students at the veterinary school. As in the case of all state universities in the country, the University is officially supervised by the Ministry of Education and its teaching and research programs are also sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Regional Development and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Through its Visiting Professors Program, the Center places experienced practitioners in visiting professorships at institutions in East Europe and the former Soviet republics. More than 300 senior lawyers have taken up almost 700 appointments since the program began in 2006. In cooperation with Lazarski University, Warsaw, Boston University, and Eötvös Lorand University, Budapest, the Center offer an LLM in Transnational Commercial Practice, for law graduates and practitioners. The LLM requires the satisfaction of 21 credits over in a two to three-year period. Cycles I and II are taught in Budapest, Hungary and Cycle III is taught in Warsaw, Poland. The Center for International Legal Studies organizes and has founded, together with SULS, PUSL, DIS and KCL, the Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot, the premiere investor-State arbitration moot competition. In 2000, when we had the opportunity to become an independent higher educational institution, we had a definite notion of how to become the intellectual innovation centre of Dunaújváros and the region. We alleged the enlargement of our training and research areas into this service; we have been building a European Campus. Our History McDaniel College, Westminster, MD, was founded in 1867 and is one of the first coeducational colleges in the United States. It was originally named after the Western Maryland Railroad Company, whose president offered a generous donation for the building of the first residence halls on College Hill in Westminster, the seat of Carroll County, in Maryland. The legal predecessor of our University was the Reformed Theological Academy of Budapest, founded in 1855 and granted University status by the Hungarian Parliament in 1900. In 1993 the General Assembly of the Hungarian Reformed Church took the decision to establish a multi-faculty University, and this decision was approved later on in the year on 21st September by the Parliament of the Republic of Hungary. Our University, in the spirit of the universitas scientiarium, aims to raise the status of not solely the Church, but also the nation, through its educational, teaching and academic work. The commitment of Károli Gáspár University is to carry on the distinguished traditions of the Reformed Colleges of Sárospatak (founded in 1531), Pápa (founded in 1531), Debrecen (founded in 1538), Kolozsvár (founded in1622) and Nagyenyed (founded in 1632). In addition to the education of ministers of religion, for the purposes of academic research, training for the position of lecturer and for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, and the awarding of degrees, its aims and objectives are to provide BA and MA level basic education in several fields and branches of scholarship, and to be capable of carrying out academic research, in accordance with the aforementioned traditions and in the spirit of the Reformation. The Hungarian Accreditation Committee, in Decision no.1 of June 6th 2000 regarding the standard of education and academic research carried out at Károli Gáspár University, granted our University accredited status as a result of the fact that our educational and research activities conform with the laws currently in force and are, additionally, in accordance with the Hungarian Accreditation Committee opinion and with their guidelines on educational standards. Together, may we receive inspiration on the path to knowledge, morality or goodwill. Every third level study involves a significant component, the participation in international education. Our University puts special emphasis on the opportunities for part-time studies as exchange programmes. Numerous programmes of the European Union make active participation of students in mobility programmes possible. After the foundation of our University we first developed relationships with the Dutch region, but by now we have expanded our connections with the neighbouring countries, overseas and with religious and public universities all over the European Union. We receive continuous financial and professional support from the Socrates and Lifelong Learning Programme/Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci or CEEPUS programmes of the European Commission. Our University’s departments maintain mainly student and teacher mobility relationships but we do consider further developments like joint educational modules, curriculum development and the evolvement of new study programmes. Our aim is to strengthen the European dimension by the complete recognition of credits acquired abroad, the development of the quality of education and foreign language teaching, the extension of projects based on international relationships, the comparison of different educational structures and policies and the use of commonly gained insights. The Faculty of Horticultural Science, which was founded by a physician, Ferenc Entz in 1853, became one of the prominent places of European horticultural teaching during the last 150 years. It is the consequence of the fact, that Hungarian society always gave a high priority to the training of agricultural specialists. All that time the school's aim was to convey up-to-date basic knowledge and form an ecological awareness in our graduates, who have good experiences in all… [+] sectors of horticulture, plant protection, farm management and ecological farming. The Faculty played an important and traditional role information of a number of special horticultural regions of Hungary, appreciated worldwide. The activity of our professors and research-workers contributed in a great deal to the development of such regions as Tokaj, specialized for wine production, Szeged and Kalocsa, which are known from its paprika production, or East-regions of Hungary, which produce numbers of delicious fruits. Our task was as well to contribute to the development of the ornamental and medicinal plant sectors. The Hungarian horticulture, as a whole, supported by our knowledge and education system, produced high-quality food-products are known as "Hungaricum" worldwide. We assume an obligation to prepare the students to start their home and international career by training communicative skills, career counseling and providing an opportunity to study languages. Our multinational teaching and research cooperation help this idea, which is extended to the EU countries, as well as USA, Japan, Australia, etc. Currently, there are more than 2000 students matriculated at the Faculty of Horticultural Science under B.Sc. and M.Sc. training in Hungary and in surroundings, including Serbia, Romania, and Ukraine. The training of Ph.D. students, which means rising new generation of scientists, is one of the highly significant tasks of our education. Japan, American, EU and Middle East Institutions and Universities employ our former Ph.D. students, beyond to Hungary. The Central Building of the Faculty of Horticultural Science is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Budapest, on the South slope of Gellért Hill. Otherwise, Budapest is the most important education and cultural center of Hungary and some of its sights counted to the world heritage. For all our students, besides the high-quality education, historical, cultural facilities of this beautiful capital are available. All students are welcome from both Hungary and abroad, who like to take part in high-quality education on horticultural sciences and wish to be the citizen of our Faculty, want to be acquainted with Hungarian cultural life and with one of the most beautiful metropolises of the World.
