Research
The Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Natural Sciences, with its biology, chemistry, earth science, informatics, mathematics and physics departments – significantly contributes to University of Hamburg’s research profile. Various rankings and ratings (Academic Council, German Research Foundation, CHE) attest to the importance of these disciplines.
Our research strengths are particularly evident in the CliSAP cluster of excellence, in two collaborative research centers, four research training groups, several associative projects of the Ministry of Education and Research and further successful acquisition of external funds. Established cooperation with non-university institutions in the region (e.g. DESY, HPI, BNI, GKSS, EMBL, MPI Meteorology, AWI, Federal Research Institute) constitutes an indispensable framework. The Faculty’s research clusters are:
- Earth, environment, resources, and risks
- Life Sciences
- Light and Matter
- Nano-Science
- Information and Communication
