The University Of Münster, Institute for Geoinformatics
Geoinformatics is the science of modeling spatiotemporal processes computationally. The Institute of Geoinformatics Münster provides bachelor, master and Ph.D. degrees in geoinformatics. Our research areas are spatiotemporal dynamic processes, semantic interoperability, spatial assistance systems, cognitive engineering and sensor networks.
Vision
The Institute for Geoinformatics (ifgi) will consolidate its position among the world's leading institutions in geoinformatics research and education. A steadily growing number of high-quality graduates and publications will contribute to the field as well as to a better understanding of the human environment and better decisions about it.
Mission
We build on our proven strengths in research quality and productivity, student motivation, forward-looking teaching, and international networking to educate leaders and generate knowledge in geoinformatics. By integrating approaches from computational, physical and life sciences, engineering, humanities, and social sciences, we expand the role of geoinformation in science and society. At the University of Muenster and elsewhere, we reach out beyond the geosciences, offering our expertise in spatiotemporal analysis and geoinformatics technology to history, sociology, biology, epidemiology, economics, and empirical sciences. To connect to these fields, we offer broadly applied geoinformatics courses, apply for joint interdisciplinary research funding, and establish additional working groups at ifgi.
