TU Wien - Continuing Education Center

Introduction

For a number of decades now, the TU Wien has been one of the most high-profile providers of continuing education in Austria. The internationally oriented Continuing Education Center (CEC) of the TU Wien sees its primary task as twofold. Firstly, to help graduates exploit the full potential of a technical and scientific education. Secondly, to open up new fields for professional development for individuals who display initiative and have the relevant practical experience.

With more than ten master programs, students enrolled from 79 countries and all continents, a top faculty and international accreditations, the role of the CEC is to engage daily with the adventure of innovation and continuing education, and keep constantly abreast of the changing times we live in.

Quality Assurance in Postgraduate Education

The importance of quality assurance and accreditation in postgraduate education has increased significantly in recent years, due to the enormous growth that has characterised continuing education as a whole. Given the ever-increasing range of studies on offer, recognized quality marks and seals of approval are major criteria for potential candidates in making an informed choice of a continuing education course that is of high quality and also meets their aspirations.

Objective external evaluation of the various continuing education courses makes international comparison with other programs possible and goes a long way to meeting the quality requirement of transparency. This in turn leads to an increase in student and graduate mobility, allowing the program to claim international appeal as well. External certification or accreditation is also an indication of the academic weight of the institution and makes its awareness of quality assurance and the need for ongoing optimisation transparent to the world outside as well. Currently, selected programs of the Continuing Education Center are accredited by

  • FIBAA ("Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation")
  • ASIIN ("Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik e.V.)
  • RICS ("Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors") and
  • CEPI ("European Council of Real Estate Professions")
  • QUESTE-SI ("Quality System of Science and Technology Universities for Sustainable Industry")
