MSc in Petroleum Engineering

Petroleum Engineering is an interdisciplinary field that applies engineering principles and quantitative methods in exploiting subsurface oil and gas reserves. At UTP, the MSc course in Petroleum Engineering offers qualified and dedicated graduates with a learning experience and industry relevant research and field development projects related to the needs of the multibillion-dollar petroleum industry. This is achieved through a programme of taught MSc degree course which offers 11 technical modules and 2 management electives. There is a high degree of computer usage for project, teaching and online support. High-performance workstations are able to provide powerful graphics and processing capability enabling students and high calibre staff to tackle complicated problems of the petroleum industry.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Bachelors Degree in the field of Engineering or Science or Applied Mathematics from UTP or other recognised universities.

Applicants with other qualifications can be considered if they have the necessary research experience and could show capabilities to pursue postgraduate studies.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The curriculum is meticulously developed with inputs drawn from the experience of Heriot-Watt, UK and experts from the oil and gas industry in Malaysia and other parts of the world. The course is designed to accommodate working professionals who would be able to utilise their work experience in projects. For fresh graduates, there will be opportunities to work on real projects with various companies. There are 11 technical modules and 2 management electives to be completed over 3 semesters.

The course runs on a one-week lecture module at UTP.

• Examinations are held at the end of every semester on week 16.

Petroleum engineers are expected to be able to communicate effectively with people from various disciplines and expertise. Our programme is designed to encourage close interaction amongst students and industry practitioners.
