Eligible applicants to the Master’s degree programme must have a suitable higher education degree and adequate proficiency in the English language demonstrated in one of the ways described below.

1) Higher education degree that meets the following requirements:

A higher education degree that gives eligibility to Master’s level education in the country in which the degree was issued. Applicants holding a degree that gives eligibility to Doctoral programmes, should primarily seek admission to the Doctoral level.

The International Business and Entrepreneurship programme welcomes applications with various higher education degrees. The higher education degree can be, for example, in the fields of business, economics, social sciences, engineering, statistics, and human sciences, among others.

The higher education institution awarding the degree must be a recognised part of the official national education system of the country, i.e., to be listed as a degree-granting higher education institution by the country where it is located or by a relevant international organisation (such as UNESCO).

If the applicant holds a degree that gives general eligibility to Master’s level studies but the field of the degree is not wholly compatible with that of the programme, the Faculty may accept the applicant, if they can complete the required studies as electives included in the Master’s degree. However, if the amount of such complementary studies would cause the total number of credits in the degree to exceed 120 ECTS, the applicant cannot be admitted.

The degree used for proving eligibility may be unfinished at the time of application, in which case the applicant can be conditionally admitted. In such a case, the degree must be completed and related certificates (degree certificate and/or final official transcript of records) must be received by the University of Jyväskylä by 30 June 2023 at 3.00 p.m. (EEST).

2) English language proficiency demonstrated in one of the following ways:

Upper secondary education, in which the language of tuition/instruction is English, completed in a Nordic country (Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland), the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.

A higher education degree, in which the language of tuition/instruction is English, completed in an EU/EEA country, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.

Finnish-medium or Swedish-medium higher education degree completed in a Finnish higher education institution, and the degree comprises a command of foreign language in English in compliance with the Government Decree on University Degrees (794/2004) and Government Decree on Universities of Applied Sciences (1129/2014). The degree must be completed by the end date of the application period.

Higher education degree completed or being completed in a Finnish higher education institution, and the major/specialisation of the degree is the English language.

An international language proficiency test in English. Approved language tests and required minimum results are as follows:

TOEFL iBT, TOEFL iBT Home Edition, and TOEFL iBT Paper Edition: 92

IELTS Academic, IELTS for UKVI Academic, and IELTS Indicator: 6.5

Cambridge C2 Proficiency (CPE): A, B, C or C1

PTE Academic, PTE Academic UKVI, and PTE Academic Online: 62

PTE, IELTS and TOEFL results are valid for two years. The result must be valid until the end date of the application period. If the test result is released after the end date of the application period, it needs to be released and valid on the deadline date for submitting attachments. The University of Jyväskylä accepts only the results of Cambridge tests completed in 2005 and thereafter.

The Finnish National Certificate of Language Proficiency (YKI), which must be passed at least with level 5 in all skill components: speaking, writing, listening, and reading comprehension. The applicant can combine YKI results from different test dates. The University of Jyväskylä accepts only the results of the National Certificate of Language Proficiency tests completed in 2002 and thereafter.

Applicants should register for a language test well in advance of the application deadline, so that the test can be completed, and the result received in time to meet the deadline. Receiving the test results may take up to two months.

If the result of the language test is below the required minimum, the application will not be considered for admission.

No other means for proving language proficiency than the ones listed above will be accepted. No waivers to the language proficiency requirements are given.

Admissions Option 2

After completing the JSBE Master’s Degree Programme in International Business and Entrepreneurship, graduates are ready to work in demanding managerial posts in international companies as management consultants or as entrepreneurs in their own businesses. Whichever path is envisaged, the programme will prepare graduates so that they have an entrepreneurial and strategic mindset and solid analytical skills.

The programme is a generalist programme with a comprehensive perspective. IBE provides students with competences that are applicable in different sectors of the economy, different types of jobs, and different environments.
