Introduction
The objective of the master's degree is to impart knowledge related to energy, covering concepts such as energy efficiency and certification, renewable energy and implementation of energy systems both in the industrial field and in the tertiary sector. The master's degree has a clear practical vocation, so that the student can use the knowledge received in carrying out projects that incorporate both the technical and the economic and environmental aspects.
The master's classes will preferably be given on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings. The subject exams and the presentation of works will be carried out preferably on Thursdays from 19:00.
During the course, the use of remote teaching tools will be reinforced without losing sight of the fact that the master's degree is currently designed as a face-to-face master's degree. By way of example, the defense of works can be carried out remotely using the tools developed by UVIGO for this purpose.
Ideal Students
Students of the Master in Energy and Sustainability must have at least basic knowledge of:
- Electrical engineering
- Thermotechnics
- Industrial Chemistry
- Industrial economy
It would also be recommended that you have knowledge of fluid mechanics, electrical installations and thermal installations.
Therefore, the recommended entry profile is an engineer, architect, technical engineer or technical architect, Graduate in a degree related to engineering or energy. Also, depending on the specialty undertaken, they may fit the recommended profile, among others, graduates in Chemical or Physics Sciences or similar.
Students who meet the access requirements established in article 3 of RD 56/2005, of January 21, will be able to access the master's degree. Degrees without additional access requirements are:
- Industrial Engineering, Master in Industrial Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- Degree in Energy Engineering
- Industrial Technical Engineering
- Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Degree in Industrial Technologies
- Technical Engineering in Forest Industries
The Academic Committee may assess other requirements in addition to the original bachelor's degree, such as languages, other master's degrees or courses taken in energy or the environment, etc. Likewise, the committee may decide to carry out entrance tests or personal interviews.

Curriculum
The Master in Energy and Sustainability is an interdisciplinary program, with a theoretical and methodological basis in technical teachings, which aims to provide academic and/or professional training of students as specialists in sustainable energy in the industry.
The Energy Sector is one of the most closely related to the problems associated with sustainable development: economic growth, energy consumption and environmental impact are closely related. It is therefore essential to achieve a balance between three aspects: how to grow more, with less energy consumption and how energy can be produced, transformed and consumed while minimizing the environmental impact.
Given the enormous importance of the energy sector in economic development, the measures to be applied in the field of energy must be compatible with the three fundamental principles: competitiveness, security of supply and environmental protection, seeking sustainable growth. To achieve this purpose, it is necessary to train technicians who master classic energy technologies and plants, along with new renewable energies, energy efficiency and savings policies and means, environmental legislation, as well as having the ability to analyze technical and economic viability. of projects in the energy sector, these constitute the general objectives of this master's degree.
In order to achieve the indicated objectives, the master's degree offers training in Energy and Sustainability, that is, economicsenergyenvironment. To obtain a coherent program, it has been structured into four modules:
- Energy evaluation
- Renewable energy
- Economic, environmental and energy evaluation of projects
- Energy systems
Along these lines, it is necessary to take into account the degrees in the university environment, not only from the university where it is taught, but also from those in its surroundings (SUG). For this reason, the teaching of the master's degree reinforces, compared to other degrees, teaching in technical aspects, focusing on multidisciplinarity. In addition, a practical approach is presented so that students have the ability to solve projects in the field of energy.
In the current economic context, the energy dependence of both Spain and the rest of the EU countries in relation to primary energy is evident, in addition to the efforts to reduce said dependence through initiatives such as the Europe 2020 sustainable development strategy. , the economic impact of energy on companies is increasing, as are the legislative demands to reduce said impact. This is why Galician professional technicians demand multidisciplinary teaching that, based on the knowledge acquired in the original degree qualifications, deepens the knowledge of classical energies and technologies, and carries out an exhaustive study of the new renewable energies, new more efficient technologies and energy substitution and saving policies, environmental legislation and energy economics.
