What knowledge will I acquire with this Master?

The fundamental objective of the program consists of promoting the student's scientific research on the problems associated with the entrepreneurial drive and the exhaustive analysis of the critical factors of success and failure that come from entrepreneurial experiences. The in-depth analysis of the role of institutions in promoting business creation and the search and proposal of policies that allow improving the conditions for the creation and maintenance of companies in the market economy from different perspectives, business, legal, economic, institutional, etc.

Is this qualification official according to the regulations required by the European Higher Education Area?

Yes (final verification report attached), starting the first year in the 2010-11 academic year.

Is it necessary to pass an access test?

Students who have possession of an official Spanish university degree or another issued by an institution of higher education of the European Higher Education Area that authorize in the country issuing the degree for access to Master's teaching.

The in-depth analysis of the role of institutions in promoting business creation and the search and proposal of policies that allow improving the conditions for the creation and maintenance of companies in the market economy from different perspectives, business, legal, economic, institutional, etc.

Therefore, the specific objectives of the program include:

Teach lines of research in Entrepreneurship. For this, the following training actions (36 ECTS credits) are carried out during the teaching period: The impact of Information Technologies and Systems on Entrepreneurship, Business Administration for entrepreneurs, Cooperation agreements for entrepreneurs, Operations management for entrepreneurs , Economic Institutions and entrepreneurial initiative in the history of economic thought, Market processes and dynamic efficiency of Institutions.

Training in information analysis methodologies in Business Entrepreneurship. Research methodology in Entrepreneurship (common to all the lines contemplated).

  • Teach how to develop an investigation in the field of Entrepreneurs. In the research period that will entail obtaining 24 ECTS credits, each student will prepare an authorized research work on one of the following topics, derived from any of the lines of research for which they have previously been trained in the previous period.
  • "Strategy and Organization of the creation of companies".
  • "The impact of Information Technologies and Systems on business creation".
  • "Cooperation Agreements for entrepreneurial companies".
  • "Business development strategies for entrepreneurs".
  • "Research in Business Creation".
  • "Current research trends in management and continuity of the family business".
  • "Strategic knowledge management".
  • "Business change and restructuring: location of direct investment decisions abroad".
  • “Tools for the entrepreneur's decision: risk, uncertainty and multi-criteria”.
  • "Economic Institutions and entrepreneurship: influence of Economic Institutions in the efforts of creation and maintenance of companies and political institutions that favor the creation of companies".

The program that is presented covers most of the current lines of research in the Entrepreneurs area. Seeking excellence in the quality of research, it proposes the maximum participation of all doctors with active lines of research in the area and who meet criteria of scientific excellence recognized through official bodies, such as the Ministry of Education and Science. It will also promote the mobility of professors, incorporating thematic seminars given by visiting professors from other universities who also meet criteria of scientific excellence.

Competencies

The general competencies that will be required of the students of this degree are detailed below. At the end of each competition, the evaluation procedure for each of them is specified.

General competences:

  • That the student acquires sufficient basic knowledge and understanding to develop and apply original ideas in the context of Research. Evaluation: Reading and presentation of relevant research works in the field, as well as proposals for their improvement. If the knowledge were very theoretical, it could be assessed by taking exams;
  • That the student is able to apply their knowledge and understanding, as well as their abilities to solve problems, in new or unfamiliar environments and in broad contexts, dialoguing with professionals / researchers from other fields such as doctors, economists, engineers, sociologists, political scientists, computer scientists, etc. Evaluation: Realization and presentation of works in which problems with multidisciplinary needs are solved;
  • That the student is able to reflect on the social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments. Assessment: Completion of work and student participation in forums on social issues;
  • That the student is able to communicate their conclusions, knowledge and the conceptual framework on which they are based, clearly and without ambiguity, both to expert and non-expert audiences. Evaluation: Exhibition of works and participation in forums;
  • That the student develop learning skills that allow them to continue their training. Assessment: Reading and carrying out innovative works that include new topics.

General competences of the master's degree:

In the context of general competence 1, the student is able to develop and apply original ideas in the area of entrepreneurship, using data analysis tools and models. Evaluation: Reading and public presentation of research works in the area of entrepreneurship, as well as innovative proposals for their application to real problems. If the ideas to be developed were strongly theoretical in nature, the evaluation could be carried out by taking exams;

In the context of general competence 2, that the student is able to lead multidisciplinary teams in order to face and solve decision-making problems in the field of entrepreneurship. Evaluation: Carrying out and exposing works in which entrepreneurship problems involving all kinds of professional and research environments are solved;

In the context of general competence 3, that the student acquires the ability to integrate knowledge, face complexity, as well as formulate judgments based on uncertain information through data analysis tools, all based on socially useful functions responsible. Assessment: Carrying out work in which the student uses in an ethical and socially responsible manner specific tools for the entrepreneur's problem;

In the context of general competence 4, the student is able to fully justify the alternatives / decisions that must be made to all types of audiences. Evaluation: Exhibition of works and participation in forums.

In the context of general competence 5, that the student is able to continue their training in the field of entrepreneurship, through the management of leading publications. Assessment: Reading and realization of innovative works that include novel topics or not covered in the Master, but of interest to the student.

The general skills developed guarantee the acquisition of the basic skills indicated in Royal Decree 1393/2007. Specifically, the powers of the Royal Decree listed below are covered by the general powers of this Master as indicated at the end of each basic skill:

  • That students know how to apply the acquired knowledge and their ability to solve problems in new or little-known environments within broader or multidisciplinary contexts related to their area of study: this is guaranteed by general competences 1, 2 and 3;
  • That students are able to integrate knowledge and face the complexity of formulating judgments based on information that, being incomplete or limited, includes reflections on the social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments: this is guaranteed by the general competences 2, 3 and 4;
  • That students know how to communicate their conclusions to specialized and non-specialized audiences in a clear and unambiguous way, as well as the knowledge and ultimate reasons that support them: it is guaranteed by general competences 3 and 4;
  • That students possess the learning skills that allow them to continue studying in a self-directed or autonomous way: this is guaranteed by the general competence 5.

The training program of the Master's Degree for Entrepreneurs will enable students to acquire the following specific specific skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of the business factors that promote the entrepreneurial vocation.
  • Advanced knowledge of the institutional factors that promote the entrepreneurial vocation.
  • Advanced knowledge of business factors that inhibit the entrepreneurial vocation.
  • Advanced knowledge of the institutional factors that inhibit the entrepreneurial vocation.
  • Knowledge of the methodologies that allow conducting research in the area of entrepreneurship.
  • Knowledge of information and communication technologies that allow conducting research in the area of entrepreneurship.
  • Clear and practical knowledge of how a study is designed to allow testing a hypothesis in the economic field and more specifically in the field of entrepreneurs.
  • Technical and scientific competence that allows ensuring the achievement of precise and reproducible results from which valid conclusions can be drawn in the area of entrepreneurship.
  • Demonstrate a good ability to access databases by electronic searches that contain quality scientific and technical literature in the field of the economic environment and more specifically related to the creation of companies.
  • Ability to identify a significant question or hypothesis on a topic or problem and formulate the objectives, design and monitoring of a project to address its solution.
  • Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills to effectively present the results of research for critical evaluation by peers or reviewers in the economic field.
  • Demonstrate a good capacity for scientific dissemination in front of a non-specialized public, paying special attention to the social implications of scientific advances.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the ethical aspects of professional practice.
  • Carry out a Master's thesis based on a research project carried out by the student under the supervision of a tutor, in which they must demonstrate that they have acquired these twelve specific skills described above. The final master's thesis will be reflected in a written document, a synthetic presentation of fifteen minutes to the rest of the students and to the quality committee of the master's degree, which will decide whether or not the work is suitable.

In addition, the training program of the Master for Entrepreneurs, will promote the development and consolidation of generic "transversal" competences , at a higher level than the degree level, important for the future professional activity of the Graduates, among which the following stand out:
