The EC2U Joint Master “European Languages, Cultures and Societies in Contact” is a 2-year Master’s Degree (4 semesters, 30 ECTS each, 120 ECTS in total) that provides students with an in-depth knowledge of the European linguistic, cultural and social landscape using advanced research methods in the academic field. Students will be able to personalise their curriculum: they will choose their study plan in accordance with the course catalogue provided by the universities they’ll be studying at.

The EC2U Joint Master “European Languages, Cultures and Societies in Contact” is a 2-year Master’s Degree (4 semesters, 30 ECTS each, 120 ECTS in total) that provides students with an in-depth knowledge of the European linguistic, cultural and social landscape using advanced research methods in the academic field. This degree is in line with professional practice and will ensure students launch their careers with enhanced professionalism and quality of services in the broad field of language, cultural contact and social diversity.

Bachelor's Degree in one of the following areas: Modern Languages, Philology, Culture, History, International Relations, and other Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) Degrees or any other area accepted in the country of the application.

The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / French / Italian / Spanish.

In order to finalize your enrollment, you must submit the scanned version of your original documents.

Candidates must have a certificate proving a C1 level (unless native speaker) in at least TWO of the following languages: Finnish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish and English (for Turku only). English will be “lingua franca” (certification is optional).

Applicants with a B2 level will be considered in conjunction with other admission criteria but must provide evidence of attaining a C1 Level before confirmation of offer and enrolment.

Applicants with a previous university degree (Bachelor, Master or Doctorate) delivered in one of the mentioned languages (English or other) are exempted from providing proof of certification for that language.

Admissions Option 2

The uniqueness of this Master's is “à la carte” courses from the list provided by each university: beside a mandatory common online course of 10 ECTS for each of the first 3 semesters, students will define the rest of the study plan in accordance with the course catalogue provided by the chosen universities.

The fourth semester is reserved for a possible internship and thesis preparation.

2nd semester: Research Methodology in European Modern Languages and Literatures

3rd semester: Research Methodology in European Cultures and Societies

Curriculum

, which includes local fees, legal liability insurance, library and laboratory costs and any other mandatory cost related to the student’s participation in the Degree Programme for the standard duration of the Degree Programme, support in administrative and organisational issues by the Consortium Partners, costs for enrolment, all examinations and the issuing of supplement documents of the final Diploma.

What’s not included in the student fee: diploma issuing fee when locally required, accommodation, health insurance, travel to and from partner, subsistence and travel documents (visa, passport, costs for legalisation of documents) included within the framework of the mobility programme or any costs beyond the standard duration of the Degree Programme.
