Introduction
University of Wroclaw Faculty of Physics and Astronomy has been operating since 1702 and is one of the oldest universities in Central Europe. We build on the historical heritage of Silesia and the legacy of Austrian, Prussian, Czech and Polish culture, continuing also the traditions of the Polish universities in Lviv and Vilnius.
We hold the title of Research University as the only university in Lower Silesia and one of ten in Poland. This means that in the coming years, we will receive additional funding for the implementation of the University of Wrocław project, which was awarded in the competition “Initiative of Excellence – Research University”. The project envisages many benefits for current and future students of our University, including scholarship and grant programmes, tutoring, reducing the size of class groups and expanding the offer of programmes in English, as well as the introduction of additional single-degree studies intended for particular talented and ambitious people.
We employ the best specialists, also from foreign academic centres. We operate like a small city – our academic community amounts to 30 thousand people. At our 10 faculties (Faculty of Biotechnology, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Letters, Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science) you will find a wide range of diverse fields of study – from humanities, law and social sciences, to biological, chemical and geographical sciences, as well as mathematics, computer sciences and science.
Mission and Strategy
All activities of the University of Wrocław are based on two fundamental values: truth and freedom of expression. The European character of an open and tolerant institution of higher education is emphasized by its geographic and cultural situation – on the borderland between Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany.
Our mission is to conduct and promote the highest, top-quality research. We maintain close relations with Wrocław and Lower Silesia. We are also open to cooperation with other institutions of higher education and domestic and foreign businesses. We desire to build a centre for scientific, intellectual and cultural life together.
We believe that a high level of education, an exchange of concepts and ideas, and multiculturalism – of students and lecturers – constitute a foundation for a civic society, for which development is the most important goal.
Statute
The Statute of the University of Wrocław defines the principles of organisation and functioning of UWr, in particular the system and tasks of its bodies, management and organisational units.
The current statute was adopted by the UWr Senate by resolution no. 102/2019 of 29 May 2019

Digital Library
dLibra is the first Polish system for building digital libraries, which has been developed by the (PSNC) since 1999. dLibra is an effect of research in the field of digital libraries which has been performed in PSNC since 1996.dLibra system is now the most popular software of this type in Poland.
dLibra enables the building of professional repositories of digital documents which can be accessed by external individuals and systems on the Internet. Communication and data exchange is based on well-known standards and protocols such as RSS, RDF, MARC, DublinCore, or OAI-PMH. Digital libraries based on dLibra offer their users expanded possibilities such as: searching the content of stored elements, searching bibliographic descriptions with the use of a synonyms dictionary, grouping digital publications, and navigating in these structures or precise and expanded access rules to elements. A detailed functional description of dLibra can be found here. A description of architecture and technical requirements can be found here.
dLibra is used by institutions such as academic and public libraries to make stored digital publications available on the Internet. These institutions by using the PIONIER network and dLibra software create a Polish platform of distributed digital libraries. The current list of installations of the dLibra system is available here. In addition, PSNC offers training and technical help in the field of dLibra system usage.

Regional Glam
GLAM - Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums, (Galeries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) - are public and private institutions that collect cultural goods. Each such institution fulfills specific, interrelated roles in collecting, developing, preserving, and sharing with the public the parts of the cultural heritage under its care. They derive from a common root - i.e. old, traditional institutions such as the ancient Library of Alexandria, which collected various types of objects (writing documents, archives, paintings, sculptures, etc.), and were often referred to as Museion, i.e. a temple Over the years, with the development of the collection, these institutions became more and more specialized, and their structures were organized separately, according to the type of collections collected, the form of information provided and the type of users served. Additionally, in the 19th and 20th centuries, separate professional associations and educational programs were established for each type of these institutions.
In the era of the development of digital technologies, the "traditional behavior" of GLAM institutions is subject to evolution, and new IT solutions, especially the development of the Internet, create new opportunities for the safe operation of cultural heritage objects. More information on this subject can be found on the website of the Wrocław University Library - https://www.bu.uni.wroc.pl/glam, which initiated the cooperation of Lower Silesian cultural institutions as part of the Regional GLAM.
Across the heritage sector, many different types of GLAM organizations struggle with common issues. The concept of cooperation within the Regional GLAM assumes the use of the synergy potential of competencies developed in individual institutions in order to optimize the costs of their operation and increase the effectiveness of their mission.
