The master’s programme in architecture is equivalent to Part 2 of the Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM) Professional Examination and is a full-time professional Master’s programme that centres on the advanced study of architecture. It takes on an integrated approach to learning architecture and adopts the teaching philosophy of ‘design as research’. Key research areas include: Community & Place, Urban Regeneration and Tropical Architecture.
Students undertake a range of specialist and research-based studio projects supported by knowledge and application of technology and environment, cultural context, research, and professional practice to forge the position of ‘sustaining humanity’. Utilising a design as research teaching pedagogy, the design studio forms the intersection of interests across three broad domains of inquiry, i.e. urbanity, community, and technology.

The programme focuses on the issues of urban planning and management using new city models and technologies. It is led by international and Russian scholars and experts who are forming the current agenda for smart city development in Russia and worldwide. The key principle of the programme is learning by doing. The programme takes place in a laboratory-type environment where students try new technology, prepare prototypes, investigate and analyse the city through data, and develop projects that come as a relevant response to complex problems that affect modern cities.
The programme invites architects, designers, engineers, economists, entrepreneurs and graduates interested in the management of cities and technologies. The skills acquired during the programme provide the graduates with a variety of career opportunities in large technological companies, city administrations or their own innovative businesses....

Public spaces are interior and exterior spaces, as well as permanent and impermanent spaces, for movement and passage; encounter and exchange; as well as entertainment and leisure. These spaces go beyond the physical and into the realms of the virtual, social, cultural, and emotional. In India, where tradition and modernity coexist in layered complexity, these spaces include streets and pavements; parks, maidans, and bagaans; railway stations and metro stations; shopping malls and bazaars; exhibitions, museums and gallery spaces. Indian cities face the constant struggle to design, maintain and improve the inhabitation of public spaces and their qualities, not just in urban areas but also in peri-urban areas. A successful and liveable city, therefore, needs to have a network of well-designed and inclusive public spaces....

Like the Department of Interior Design, the Department of Architecture belongs to the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. Despite some differences, much of the curriculum in these two departments follow similar lines which mostly run in parallel. This is so not only because the two disciplines are close relatives of each other, but also because it facilitates the transfer of students from one discipline to the other if they wish to do so.
The principal objective of this education is to teach students the important skills they would need in the future. Moreover, it is thought to be essential that students acquire a sincere love of this profession if they are to be successful in the future. In this direction, besides obligatory practice in offices or the construction sites, students will be introduced the realities of professional life under dynamic circumstances – may this be within or outside the academic life....

The global environmental and energy challenge facing current and future generations of architects and building professionals call for a deeper understanding of the principles of environmental design, and their effective application into architectural practice. However, it seems necessary to have a master course in this important area. Students on this master course will take a fresh critical look at the subject. They will learn environmental design methods which relate to the various stages of architectural design and will be able to evaluate existing buildings and design new ones following a combined bioclimatic and building occupant focused approach. The course covers both the wider contextual and sustainable approach to environmental design, and the more technical aspects of environmentally and energy conscious building design and performance....
