Introduction
In this course, students benefit from close ties to industry. UTS academics have professional backgrounds and connections, and class projects are often based on real development scenarios. Recent project examples include the Gladesville Hospital site, Lindfield Town Centre and the Sydney Light Rail Corridor. As many students have extensive industry experience too, there are excellent opportunities for peer-to-peer learning and networking across a range of fields including property development, valuation, construction, engineering, town planning and architecture.
At UTS, students gain a broad understanding of the property development cycle in a team-based learning environment, enabling them to move beyond niche disciplines into broader management level positions or work with clients in new ways. UTS also recognises the broad nature of the property industry. Students can tailor their degree thanks to the extensive range of specialist electives available, including finance, conservation, urban design, global trends and commercial property. With a strong foundation in planning, students are also eligible for significant block credit in the Master of Planning (C04007). The UTS Master of Property Development may also be studied as a combined degree with another associated discipline: UTS Master of Property Development and Investment UTS Master of Property Development and Planning UTS Master of Property Development and Project Management
The degree provides property-related professionals such as architects, engineers, construction managers, valuers, planners and business or finance professionals the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and qualifications and obtain a more holistic understanding of property development and related processes. This enables graduates to expand their careers or move outside of their original professional area to higher or broader roles within the property development industry and/or offer new services to clients. Graduates completing the UTS Master of Property Development Valuation sub-major meet the educational requirements for accreditation as a Certified Practising Valuer (CPV) by the Australian Property Institute.
