Introduction
Facilitate Linguistic and Cultural Diversity in International Contexts
The Intercultural Communication Master’s program teaches you how to approach and promote linguistic and cultural diversity in various international contexts. The interdisciplinary and multilingual program will equip you with the tools to apply theory to international practice. After graduation, your skills as a multilingual and intercultural expert will contribute to mutual understanding within Europe or abroad and to the strong worldwide relationships that are so important in our era of globalization.
Language-Specific and Multilingual Programme
Intercultural Communication is an interdisciplinary program of the Department of Languages, Literature, and Communication. You can therefore complete the study program in a language-specific way and acquire high-quality competencies in a foreign language and the associated culture. But you can also opt for a multilingual program, in which you analyze a diversity of communication.
Compulsory Internship
Over the course of one year, this Master’s program will prepare you for an international career. Through rigorous interdisciplinary methods, you will gain experience in communication from linguistic, communicative, cultural, anthropological, and management perspectives. You will learn to put knowledge into practice during your compulsory internship. Many internship options involve a strong focus on analyzing communication products- and processes in international organizations and contexts.
Improve your Professional Opportunities in the International Communication Sector
Whether you plan to take a sabbatical from work or are an independent professional seeking to broaden your opportunities in internationalization, this Master offers you a number of possibilities. This program will increase your employability and enrich your résumé. You can also enroll in individual courses.
Program Outcome
After graduation from the Master’s program in Intercultural Communication you will:
- Be able to analyze language, culture, and communication in international and multilingual contexts.
- Know how to put communication theory into practice and successfully streamline communication processes. You can perform an academically based case study.
- Have language and culture-specific competencies in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, or Dutch.
- Possess intercultural competencies, such as self-reflection, the ability to change perspective, and to adapt to otherness.
- Have experience in intercultural advice, cultural mediation and coaching, and intercultural marketing.
After successfully completing your studies, you will be ready for various positions where intercultural communication processes in international and organizational contexts are vital. You will also be able to design and implement (practice-oriented) language and communication research based on academic principles. For example, you may advise companies and organizations on communication processes for migrants and expats (communicative auditing).
