Introduction
Did you know that more than 1.4 billion jobs, 42% of the world's active workforce, rely heavily on water? And in essence almost 80% of jobs require, directly or indirectly, access to water resources?
Such a large sector requires professionals specialized in water resources, with a multidisciplinary approach that facilitates its insertion in a wide range of companies and entities that cover the different sectors of activity. Based on these premises, the Master in Science and Technology of Water Resources has been designed that incorporates the particularities of the sector and an innovative method of problem-based learning.
Training objectives
The objective of the master's degree in science and technology of water resources is to train professionals with a multidisciplinary profile that allows them to face current and future challenges in the management of water resources, facilitating their incorporation into the labor market and the world of research (in public or private centers), and developing its activity in aspects directly or indirectly related to water, with a greater scientific or engineering emphasis depending on the itinerary chosen.
It also aims to equip students with tools and skills that allow them to face complex problems with a critical analysis of existing information, manage uncertainty, make decisions (individually and as a team) and adapt to constant paradigm changes. from the field of science and technology of water resources. Communication, responsibility, and the search and use of reliable sources of knowledge are worked through the teaching methodology of problem-based learning.
Specific competences (8):
- Analyze the different uses of water based on knowledge and the correct interpretation of the territorial, economic and / or legal context
- Fit the existing interrelationships between the different types of aquatic systems in a conceptual model of water balance, identifying and quantifying the different human uses (use, exploitation, pressures and impacts) of these water resources.
- Identify, plan and optimally manage the urban water cycle and its main infrastructures, considering aspects of efficiency, sustainability and innovation.
- Discuss innovative advances in science and technology in the water sector and market trends.
- Know and evaluate the effect of natural and anthropogenic stressors on river and lenithic ecosystems.
- Evaluate the ecological status of a body of water from the use of physical-chemical and biological indicators.
- Apply the operation of new information and communication technologies in water processes.
- Design a project in the water sector oriented to defined and measurable objectives, attending to the needs of stakeholders and based on the analysis of the environment and organizational capacity.
