Introduction
The Master's degree program Information Management comprises elements from the field of Informatics and from Business Administration. Students reinforce their business expertise within the focus area of Business Administration and expand their knowledge in one of the specializations from the fields of Informatics, Information Systems, and Information Management. In doing so, special emphasis is placed on coupling business administration expertise and information technology know-how. The degree program aims to convey the knowledge required in order to manage computerized information systems in businesses and inter-company networks, both in terms of business administration and in terms of information technology. A compulsory practical placement and lecturers from the industry round off the practice-oriented profile of the degree program.
In the field of Computer Science, the University of Klagenfurt achieved third-place among Austrian universities in the 201-250 range in the THE World University Rankings 2020.

Study objectives
Students completing the Master's degree program Information Management learn how to develop information technology solutions from the business administration perspective, and to apply these in the practical setting. They are well-equipped to:
- Design, introduce, support, and develop information systems and networks that are typical for e-Business, working beyond corporate borders if necessary.
- Operate the interface management between business application and system technology from the specification analysis, to the functional specification document, and finally to the system design, and consequently provide project-based support for development processes.
- Accept the responsibility for the entire internal information system in small and medium-sized companies, including the necessary Informatics solutions.
- Independently develop and manage small-scale software applications for businesses.
- Utilize their acquired theoretical and methodological expertise to conduct independent research in the scientific sphere.
Prerequisites
Students who have completed a Bachelor's degree program consisting of courses that provide evidence of the following knowledge to the extent stated:
- Technical knowledge in informatics subjects/business informatics subjects (minimum 30 ETCS credits).
- Knowledge in business administration subjects (minimum of 30 ECTS credits).
- Knowledge of the relevant principles in mathematics and statistics (minimum of 12 ECTS credits).
- proof of proficiency in English at Level B2 of the CEFR.
Careers and occupational profiles
Graduates occupy leadership positions in the middle and upper management levels of private and public companies, as well as non-profit organizations. Participation in university and non-university research institutions also represents a possible field of professional activity.

Campus and student life
There’s more to student life than lectures and exams. The University of Klagenfurt is located in western Klagenfurt, close to Lake Wörthersee. The university is one of the few campus universities in Austria and enjoys excellent transport links with Klagenfurt city center. There are also a large number of restaurants and housing options in the area surrounding the campus. Since 2007, the campus has also been home to Austria’s most contemporary University Sports Institute (USI), which has an area of 1156 m² available for sporting activities. The USI offers a wide range of sports on campus, as well as a variety of sports camps all across Europe.
