Master in Energy Informatics
Energy is the underlying heartbeat of the global economy – a critical factor in the production of nearly all goods and services in the modern world. Clearly, given the critical role of energy, the driving imperatives in any economy are ensuring the security of supply, maintaining competitiveness and overseeing the transition to a low-carbon future.
Key requirements in this respect are the strategic management of supply and improving its overall generation and distribution. Impacting on these challenging goals will be a variety of factors, including advances in renewables, e-mobility and green technologies, to name only a few. Managing this changing environment is no easy task. That will require intelligent IT solutions and therefore well-educated IT experts able to design and/or operate future smart grids, smart city infrastructures and enhanced energy supply systems.
Energy Informatics (ENI) is the application of information technologies to this highly demanding field.

Additional interdisciplinary elective courses and seminars are also available; they vary from semester to semester.
The curriculum of the Master's degree program Energy Informatics (ENI) is structured in a way that allows for giving a comprehensive overview on almost all of the relevant aspects in the smart energy domain. Furthermore, it allows for individual specialization by identifying specific topics the student is interested in.
Technical competences like smart grid field components and home and building automation as well as interdisciplinary competencies like process modeling and international energy markets and energy laws are provided by the highly forward-looking master's degree program.
In addition students of the Master's degree program, Energy Informatics can also attend courses being offered by other Master's degree programs. The interest areas have to be chosen in the context of the project and research topics being defined together with the academic advisor that has been assigned to the student.

The Energy & Climate Package and the Energy Efficiency Directives released by the European Commission in 2007 and 2012, respectively, clearly state that the main tools for building a progressively lower carbon economy are energy efficiency, investment in renewables and new technologies, as well as better interconnectivity between energy markets. These strategic goals will all require a large pool of IT expertise.
In-depth technical knowledge in Energy Informatics equips our students with the proactive qualities that underpin leadership/management positions and can lead to high-flying careers.
Energy Informatics graduates will not only work with energy suppliers and network operators but also in associated sectors. Even energy-intensive industries such as the automotive industry and metal processing companies can benefit from their expertise. Other fields include the conception, planning, and implementation of IT systems for smart grids, smart cities, e-mobility and industrial plants. You will be working in a highly dynamic field with excellent career prospects.
